Services and Procedures
A full range of modern, minimally invasive treatments, done through tiny pinholes instead of open surgery. Dr. Ghodadra focuses on relief for knee pain, women's health, cancer, and blood-flow and circulation problems.
Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE)
A minimally invasive, image-guided treatment for ongoing knee pain from arthritis, or for a knee that keeps bleeding or hurting after a knee replacement. Through a pinhole in the foot or upper thigh, Dr. Ghodadra guides a thin tube to the small arteries feeding the inflamed knee and places tiny particles that block the problem vessels driving the pain. Most people start to feel meaningful relief within a few weeks, with the full benefit by about three months.
Dr. Ghodadra helped lead UPMC's GAE clinical trial (NCT04951479) and offers GAE for eligible patients at UPMC.

Cancer Treatments
Image-guided treatments that target tumors precisely, often reaching them in ways traditional surgery or medicine alone cannot.
Targeted radiation beads for liver tumors
This treatment delivers tiny radioactive beads straight into the blood supply of liver tumors, including liver cancer and cancer that has spread to the liver from somewhere else (such as colon cancer). Because the beads travel through the tumor's own arteries, they concentrate the radiation right where it's needed. Dr. Ghodadra has published research on this treatment's results and value.
Tumor ablation (destroying tumors with heat or cold)
For some tumors, a thin needle-like probe is guided through the skin to the tumor, and energy is used to destroy it while sparing the healthy tissue around it. Options include:
- Heat (radiofrequency or microwave)
- Freezing (cryoablation)
Blood Clot Treatments
Minimally invasive treatments to remove dangerous blood clots in the legs or lungs. Using thin tubes guided through the blood vessels, Dr. Ghodadra can quickly clear clots, restore blood flow, and lower the risk of the long-term problems clots can leave behind.
Dialysis Access
For people on dialysis or getting close to it, having reliable access for treatment is essential. Dr. Ghodadra can create the connection between an artery and a vein using catheter-based tools instead of open surgery, which can mean a smaller procedure and a quicker recovery for the right patients. He also performs maintenance procedures to keep existing dialysis access working well.
UPMC 3D Printing Program
Dr. Ghodadra founded the UPMC 3D Printing Program and serves as its Medical Director. The program turns a patient's own scans into life-size 3D-printed models and surgical guides that help doctors plan and even practice complex procedures across UPMC. He has also helped write national guidelines on how 3D printing should be used in medicine.
